Depression Statistics – Overview

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

Someone once said that the statistics of depression are miserable, and in fact, the statistics showing how many American people are depressed are staggering. For example, the National Institute of Mental Health, called the NIMH, said that depression affects about 17 million adults every year in America.

Unfortunately, this is much more than cancer, coronary heart disease and, even more than AIDS! Moreover, they indicate that in their estimates, 15 percent of cases of chronic depression may end in suicide. Women are said to be twice as possible as men to be chronically depressed. And 90% of suicides had a diagnosis of mental illness and it’s generally a depressive disorder.

Other depression statistics show that nearly 80-90% of all cases can be treated successfully and effectively. The information is supported by the American Psychiatric Association or called APA.

The National Depressive and Manic Depressive Association has stated that an estimated $43 billion a year is lost to depression. Mostly this is attributed to medical costs, lost productivity and of course absenteeism from the work force. Also, 80-90% of people who have a serious mental illness are unemployed.

You may want to know what is depression. There are three different types of depression, bipolar or manic depression, major depression and finally dysthymia. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has stated that major depression may affect as many as 15% of Americans at some point during their lives.

Major depression is said to come in the episodes, while dysthymia doesn’t come in the episodes at all, but rather is persistent through many years. According to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Depression Statistics indicate nearly 10 million American people who may have dysthymia every year.

Bipolar or manic depression is much less common, as it is reported in Depression Statistics that only approximately 6 million or 3% of Americans are affected by this kind of depression in a given year.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has reported that having a serious medical disease may cause depression as well. For example, persons who have had a heart attack, they’ll have 40% chance of feeling depressed.

Truly frightening on the topic of Depression Statistics are the great depression facts that roughly 80% of people who are currently experiencing depression symptoms are not receiving treatment. Also 4% of adolescents will develop serious depression and truly unfortunate is the fact that suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for those aged 10 to 24 years old. It is also expected that depression will become the world’s 2nd most universal health problem by the year 2020.

There are a variety of diseases that can afflict an individual’s body.  Generally, these diseases affect specific organs within the body and cause disruption of the normal processes that the body preforms in order to maintain one’s health.

For example, if an individual is prone to seizures, this type of malady generally affects the brain and the nervous system.  This in turn has the potential of reducing the quality of life for the individual and prevents them from engaging in practices that other individuals can do  An example of a behavior that an individual suffering from seizures could not partake in would be the driving of a motor vehicle.

Another malady that could affect an individual the condition of hemophilia. This inability of a person’s blood to clot could be a major reason why an individual could not participate in various types of activities.

A person faces problem in his life due the disease of diabetic.  Fortunately along with the other above listed diseases, there have been medical breakthroughs that allow the individual to take medications that help to alleviate the medical conditions effects upon the human body.

Therefore if considering the disease of diabetes, it is important to know what diabetes is and ways that diabetes can be managed.  One specific way of managing the condition of diabetes is adherence to strict diabetes diet guidelines.

Diabetes Diet Guidelines: What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a disease that affects the pancreas in such a way that the insulin that is manufactured in the pancreas is minimized or not produced at all.  In addition, the purpose of the hormone known as insulin is to convert the sugar intake of an individual and turn that conversion process in to energy.  A person who scores 126 mg/dL or more as part of their fasting blood glucose laboratory test is generally considered a diabetic.

Subsequently, this energy that is produced in the body helps to revitalize the cells and give the body the energy that it needs to perform the various activities throughout the day.

Diabetes affected person loses his energy level and also suffers from other side effects.Regularly urinate, faint vision and unsatisfied thirst are some of those side effects.  In addition, an individual’s chances of having a stroke or disease of the heart are increased.

Diabetes Diet Guidelines: Managing Diabetes

Therefore, if an individual has been diagnosed with diabetes or may have borderline diabetes it is important that they manage this condition.  Examples of ways that this disease can be managed are through medication, the injection of insulin, a regular exercise program and eating appropriate foods through recommended diabetes diet guidelines.

Specifically, when it comes to diabetes diet guidelines it is important that the individual follow specific eating patterns.Diabetes diet consists of vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

In addition, another important component of diabetes diet guidelines is to avoid certain foods.  Those particular foods include the abstinence or minimal use of sugar and sweets, animal protein, etc.

Bacterial Vaginitis

The most common way to rid yourself of the nuisance of a Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) infection is to promptly make an appointment with your physician or GYN at the first sign of the symptoms. The symptoms of bacterial vaginosis can vary but the main symptoms are the same, women will have a discharge that is grayish in color although sometimes white, the discharge is watery unlike the thicker discharge associated with a yeast infection, sufferers can have itching and swelling around the vagina and even stomach pains.

The treatment of BV is a seven-day regimen of antibiotics, either metronidazole or clindamycin. Please be aware that metronidazole has been banned all across Europe because it has been shown to cause cancer in animals. Both of these antibiotics can be taken in pill form, which you will swallow, gel, or cream, which is applied to the outside area of the vagina or by the use of capsules (ovules) that are inserted into the vaginia. If you are pregnant, you will have to take the pill form of the antibiotic.

If you take antibiotics for your bacterial vaginosis treatment you must always complete the whole course for them to take effect. Although not known why, there is generally a reoccurrence of BV. If you do have recurrent bacterial vaginosis, generally you have a couple of choices, you can take another course of antibiotics or you can try another home or natural treatment its up to you. Either way, do not be surprised if you do have a reoccurrence.

It is often thought that tight panties, jeans and the wearing of a thong is one of the underlying causes of BV infections. Underwear can help spread bacteria, the cloth rubs between the anus and the vagina which in turn spreads bacteria. bacterial vaginitis.

Good hygiene is essential you must get in to a good routine, it may seem straight forward but sometimes is over looked. Although most women ages 15 to 44 are susceptible to BV, it is also possible for virgins and pre-pubescent girls to contract BV. The cause as to why is not known.

It is thought that one in three women will develop the bacterial vaginosis infection at some point in their lifetime. In addition to the physical discomfort and symptoms, BV disrupts a woman’s quality of life. So to be completely free of bacterial vaginosis for good and avoid recurrence you can follow some or all of the advice offered in this article.

There are some over the counter remedies that you can try to rid yourself of this nuisance infection. As an example products containing tea tree oil and which hazel. Actually they work in much the same way as antibiotics. You can even add yogurt to your everyday diet to help with the pH balance and manage the bacteria level within the vagins.

Whatever method you choose to rid yourself of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), you should always contact your physician should the symptoms fail to go away. You may need to utilize the antibiotic regimen that only your physician can prescribe.

Flu Fighting without Shots

In the north, flu season arrives every fall and winter. Most recently, the Swine flu had gotten the spotlight. It is so famous that the vaccine sells out as soon at it arrives. Health officials claim that 200,000 of the 5 to 20% of people who get the flu will be hospitalized, and 36,000 will die from the flu this year.

But when the hype dies down, the medical community has to admit that the Swine flu is no worse than other flu. Some even claim the above statistics are hyped. For example, many of the 36,000 who die from the flu were already weakened by other health issues. No doubt for these the danger of getting any flu is much more serious.

A recent Internet link outlined nine reasons why not to give your children the flu vaccine. These included, a) Swine flu is just another flu, not something unusually lethal; b) prior flu vaccination programs have proved to be worthless; c) The vaccine has not been proved that it works; d) over-vaccinating children is a common problem; e) the consequences may be more dangerous than getting the flu itself. Yet, no matter what you decide about the shot, no one wants to get the flu.

Let’s consider some common sense measures anyone can take to greatly reduce their chances of getting the flu. Wash your hands thoroughly using liquid soap and running water. (Antibacterial soap works no better than the regular liquid). Use a dishwasher whenever possible for the hot water kills more germs. If someone does get the flu, isolate them and keep your family away from others who show flu-like symptoms.

One often overlooked caution is to be sure your drinking water is pure. No doubt your source of drinking water has been tested for purity. City water requires a rigid standard, and well water should be tested regularly. However, additional filtering is recommended, especially during the flu season. Who’s to know whether your water has been contaminated and it doesn’t take much to do so. By filtering your drinking water, you can be sure pathogens are not present.

The Black Berkey water filters, for example, were tested with water containing more than 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than would be found in normal test water. Under such conditions, it would be normal to expect 100,000 or more pathogens per liter. The report is here quoted verbatim: “Incredibly the purification elements removed 100% of the pathogens. Absolutely no pathogens were cultured from the effluent or were able to be detected, even under an electron microscope, setting a new standard in water purification” . Such a result would certainly bring peace of mind to any who want to be safe from the flu.

The system uses charcoal rods that have been tested to remove Cryptosporitium, E. Coli, Pseudomonas, Aeriginousis, Klebsiella, and Giardia, to non-detectable levels. Though these pathogens are hard to read, let alone to say, when allowed to enter our systems, each could cause serious illness. To have the promise of removing them to non-detectable levels is reassuring, to say the least.

The flu season is upon us. Each year we face a number of options in dealing with it. Whether or not you take the shots, be sure to follow the above suggestions so that you can do as much as possible to keep the flu away.

Lastly, look into the health benefits of Berkey Filters. They are able to filter out a much higher percentage of contaminants than most filters where water pressure forces the contaminants through. Learn more about the amazing effectiveness of the Black Berkey Filters, including how they can filter up to 6000 gallons with each included pair of filters.

End Panic Attacks

Anxiousness occurs to all of us. Most people can work through the fear and keep on to live their lives doing whatever they choose to do. For others, it’s not so easy. The anxiety builds until a panic attack occurs, that is when you need to get hold of Panic Away ebook.

How do most doctors deal with a patient with panic attacks? Not very well. Quite a Number of patients either get a transfer to a psychiatrist or a quickly written prescription for anti nervousness medication. The panic attacks come back in full intensity as soon as the drug is stopped. Why? as the attacks were only cloaked and not cared for.

Anything prescribed for anti anxiety or panic disorder were never intended to be a cure. They work on your nervous system. The body has what’s called a Central Nervous System (CNS) that gets and emits out signals.

Now and then, those indications are able to become wrong. It’s not any person’s shortcoming when that happens. The autonomic structure in the body is one that amazes a good number family doctors because they’ve been trained to put right whatever health manifestation they see is wrong.

For instance – a patient comes into their workplace with a hammering heart rate. The medical doctor sends them to a cardiologist to undergo thousands of dollars worth of tests. If nothing shows up on the tests, the doctor says zilch is wrong. However it’s the medical doctor who is unethical.

They have not been educated to look further than the external signs to what’s carrying on inside. So they prescribe medication that merely consoles the symptoms and doesn’t fix the problem. These medications are like carrying a teaspoon of water along with you to drink on a midday trek across the Sahara Desert. You may believe like everything is all right, however it’s only an illusion because of the drugs. When the drugs are coming out of your body, the panic attacks come straight away.

The lucky part is that you can refuse living that way. You don’t need to just cover up your panic attacks. There is no disgrace caught up in having a panic attack. There are people who don’t recognize them and doctors who don’t understand them, but that’s the case with just about every health condition known.

Don’t forget that the problem isn’t you. You cannot stop how your body’s CNS responds to some signals, but you can find an efficient way to stop them. You can get treatment for your panic attacks via Joe Barry Panic Away.

This effective treatment course won’t have you running to the psychiatrist and you won’t have to sit in front of a doctor who only wants to push medication at you. Joe Barry Panic Away wasn’t developed in a lab by someone who read about panic attacks in a medical journal. It was created by Joe Barry who has walked the road you’re walking and knows precisely how you are feeling.
